FAQs

  • Home care is personalized support provided in the comfort of your own home to help individuals maintain independence, dignity, and a high quality of life. Unlike medical care in a hospital or nursing facility, home care focuses on non-medical assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and companionship.

It’s designed for seniors, people recovering from illness or surgery, or anyone who needs extra support to live safely and comfortably at home.

Home care services are flexible, tailored to each person’s unique needs, and delivered by trained caregivers who provide not just practical help—but also emotional support and peace of mind for families.

  • Eligibility for home care services often depends on the payer source and the individual’s specific needs. In general, a person may qualify if they:

    • Are temporarily or permanently homebound.

    • Are under the care of a physician and have an active physician’s order for services.

    • Require non-skilled support with daily activities.

    • Need part-time or intermittent care that is appropriate for their condition.

    • Can safely receive care in their home environment.

  • Home care services may be covered through Medicare, Medicaid, or most private insurance plans. At Preferred Choice Home Care, we help you understand your benefits and guide you through the payment process. Our team manages the necessary documentation, coordinates with your insurance provider to confirm coverage options, and handles billing on your behalf. We can also assist with reimbursement from long-term care insurance providers.

If you do not use insurance, we also offer private pay options. Private pay allows you to cover services independently, and we are happy to work with you to create a flexible payment arrangement that meets your needs.

    Definitions of payment options:

    • Medicare – A federal health insurance program primarily for people aged 65 and older, and for some younger individuals with disabilities. Medicare may cover certain home health services when specific eligibility requirements are met.

    • Medicaid – A state-run program that provides health insurance and medical support for qualifying individuals and families based on income.

    • Private Pay – Direct out-of-pocket payment for services, without using health insurance.

  • No. You will continue seeing your own physician, who will make the referral for Home Care and remain in charge of your overall treatment plan. Our home care team works closely with your doctor, keeping them updated to ensure you receive the best possible care designed around your unique needs.

  • Caregivers provide essential support to seniors and other adults at home, helping them stay safe, healthy, and connected. They offer companionship, assist with personal care, and handle everyday tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, and mobility support. Caregivers may also provide transportation to appointments or activities, helping clients maintain independence, purpose, and joy in daily life.

  • Yes. Visits are fully tailored to the individual needs and preferences of each client. Care can range from a few hours at a time to full 24-hour support. When around-the-clock care is needed, it may be provided by multiple care team members working in shifts to ensure continuous, seamless support. Your physician’s recommendations are incorporated into the care plan to make sure all services meet your medical and personal needs.

  • At Preferred Choice Home Care, we use a family partnership model to ensure the highest quality care. Families have two options for selecting caregivers:

    1. Hire someone you know: You can choose a qualified family member, friend, or other trusted individual. Once they complete all eligibility requirements, they can become your caregiver.

    2. Select a professional caregiver: We work to connect families with qualified professionals interested in joining as Preferred Services Providers (PSPs). Every PSP is carefully vetted through background checks and TB testing to ensure they meet our standards for safety and quality of care. Our goal is to match families with qualified providers who are not only experienced but also genuinely dedicated to supporting the well-being of those they serve.

  • Preferred Choice Caregivers (PSPs) typically earn $18–$25 per hour, depending on experience and client needs. In addition, caregivers who bring a client with them may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Please reach out to our team for more details about this opportunity.

  • Home Care can begin as soon as your physician submits a referral. A representative from our team will typically schedule a visit within 24 business hours of receiving the referral, working closely with the patient, family, and primary caregiver to ensure the timing meets everyone’s needs.

  • Preferred Choice Home Care conducts thorough background checks, reference verifications, and employment screenings to guarantee that we employ only the most qualified professionals to assist you or your loved one.

We will also perform regular and random assessments of the care quality you receive, along with patient satisfaction surveys to be completed by you, to ensure that Preferred Choice Home Care is providing you with the highest level of service.
